Reflection

The sculptures visually communicate uncleanliness and feelings of being trapped.

While exploring the materials to build the sculptures, I wanted to focus on forming small objects because of the confined feeling it would convey.

I decided to include the window from the story because I feel not only was it prominent in the story but it also further conveyed the feeling of being trapped. What can be seen out of the window is unachievable and yet Gregor longs to be back to the life he once had.

I felt the work was not producing the results I wanted when it came to the bed frame; it felt really boring and empty until I added the cage-like structure that better conveyed the idea and made the project more visually interesting.

I want to keep exploring how to work with limited materials and still make things visually interesting.

I want to learn more about interpreting stories as visual artwork.

This piece allowed me to explore the story of The Metamorphosis visually and conceptually which was particularly fun because I enjoy literature.

The making of this work exposed new ideas such as how to make things visually dull through color and texture to communicate my ideas.
